Capillary Tube Metering
Small appliances use a capillary tube as the metering device instead of a thermostatic expansion valve (TXV). The capillary tube is a long, narrow-bore copper tube that creates a fixed pressure drop between the high side and low side. It connects directly to the condenser outlet without a receiver because the system charge is critically precise. Any change in refrigerant charge significantly affects system performance.
