Hermetically Sealed System Design

Small appliances use hermetically sealed systems that are factory-charged and permanently welded shut. Unlike larger commercial or industrial systems, these units have no field-serviceable valves or access ports installed at the factory. The entire refrigerant circuit, including the compressor, condenser, metering device, and evaporator, is enclosed in a sealed loop that is designed to operate for the life of the appliance without requiring refrigerant service.

Small appliances are factory-sealed with no service valves — the entire refrigerant circuit is a permanently welded, closed loop.
