Flammable Refrigerant Safety
R-600a (isobutane) is classified as A3, meaning it is highly flammable with a higher burning velocity than mildly flammable (A2L) refrigerants. When servicing equipment containing R-600a, technicians must eliminate all ignition sources in the work area, including pilot lights, electric motors that may spark, and power tools. Proper ventilation is essential to prevent flammable concentrations from building up in enclosed spaces.
