Annual Leak Rate Formula

The annual leak rate is calculated as: (refrigerant added / total system charge) x 100, annualized to a 12-month period. If 15 lbs of R-22 are added to a system with a 100 lb charge over a 6-month period, the annualized leak rate is (15/100) x (12/6) x 100 = 30%. If the addition covers a full 12 months, no annualization adjustment is needed. This calculation determines whether the system exceeds its applicable EPA threshold.

Annual leak rate = (refrigerant added / total charge) x 100, annualized to 12 months.
