Leak Rate Thresholds
Leak repair requirements apply to ODS systems with 50+ lbs of refrigerant under Section 608, and as of January 1, 2026, to HFC systems with 15+ lbs under the AIM Act. The annual leak rate thresholds are the same for both: comfort cooling must repair leaks exceeding 10%, commercial refrigeration at 20%, and industrial process refrigeration at 30%. Residential and light commercial AC/heat pumps are exempt from HFC leak repair provisions. Leaks exceeding the threshold must be repaired within 30 days.
Leak thresholds: 10% comfort cooling, 20% commercial refrigeration, 30% industrial. Apply to ODS (50+ lbs) and HFCs (15+ lbs as of 2026).
