Leak Rate Thresholds
Leak repair requirements apply to ODS systems with 50+ lbs of refrigerant under Section 608, and to HFC systems with 15+ lbs under the AIM Act (effective January 1, 2026). For comfort cooling applications, the annual leak rate threshold is 10%. For industrial process refrigeration, the threshold is 30%. If a system's calculated annual leak rate exceeds the applicable threshold, the owner must repair the leaks within 30 days. Residential and light commercial AC/heat pumps are exempt from HFC leak repair.
Comfort cooling: 10%; industrial process: 30%. Applies to ODS (50+ lbs) and HFCs (15+ lbs as of 2026).
