Annual Leak Rate Formula

The annual leak rate for centrifugal chillers is calculated by dividing the amount of refrigerant added to the system by the total system charge, annualizing the result if the measurement period is less than 12 months, then multiplying by 100 to express it as a percentage. The full formula is: (refrigerant added / total charge) x (12 / months in period) x 100. For a full 12-month period, the annualization factor is simply 1. This calculation determines whether the system exceeds the applicable leak rate threshold.

Leak rate = (lbs added / total charge) x (12 / months) x 100. Annualize when the period is less than 12 months.
